Wedding Invite Etiquette 101: What to Include (and What to Skip)

Your invitations are often the first impression guests get of your wedding. Getting the details right avoids confusion later and sets the tone for the whole event.

What Every Invitation Needs

• Names of the couple

• Date and time of the ceremony

• Venue name and address

• RSVP method and deadline (typically 3-4 weeks before the wedding)

• Dress code, if you have one

Common Etiquette Questions

Registry information should never go on the invitation itself - save that for your wedding website. If children aren't invited, address the envelope to the parents by name only rather than adding 'no kids' language.

Timing

Send save-the-dates 6-8 months out and formal invitations 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Destination weddings should go out earlier on both counts.
